Hosting industry awards has always been a tried and true way of extending reach and garnering industry mind share. Within the security industry Alan Shimmel’s Social Security Blogger Awards is the de facto standard for award oriented marketing ~ a hearty thank-you Alan for bringing such great content to our collective attention. In reviewing this years finalists in each award category I was fully expecting to learn a few things and perhaps gain some new ideas or fresh perspectives, but I was not expecting to be so thoroughly entertained. Simply put, 2011′s single best security blog post of the year was entitled “How to Become an Information Security Thought Leader” and was created by Chris Eng who writes for the Veracode Zero Day Labs Blog (which also won for Best Corporate Blog). The animated parody is not only laugh your ass off funny, it is also a thought provoking reflection on the general herd mentality of marketing communication’s as well as a poignant reminder of how insightful parody truly can be.
